What CoC Vault Does

The Service in Plain Language

CoC Vault provides three things: (1) SHA-256 hashing of PVoC CoC PDFs — a tamper-evident digital fingerprint of each CoC; (2) permanent verification URLs — links that SARS Customs can check to verify CoC authenticity; and (3) vault storage — secure storage of CoC PDFs for importers who need long-term record keeping.

The service is designed to fill a gap in the PVoC compliance chain. Inspection bodies issue CoC PDFs, but there is no standardised mechanism for importers to share these PDFs with SARS Customs in a tamper-evident digital format. CoC Vault fills this gap.

CoC Vault does not issue PVoC CoCs — that is the function of SABS-accredited inspection bodies. CoC Vault is the digital record management and verification layer that sits above the inspection body's certificate.

The User Experience

The onboarding process takes approximately 5 minutes: create an account with your email address, click the magic-link in the email, and pay the R1,997 onboarding fee via Stripe. The confirmation email with the verification URL and QR code is sent within a few minutes of payment. The dashboard at /dashboard shows all registered CoCs with their verification URLs and metadata.

The Market Context

Why CoC Vault Exists

CoC Vault was built in anticipation of the 20 September 2026 mandatory enforcement deadline. As enforcement approaches and more importers seek PVoC compliance solutions, the service will accumulate more users and more reviews.

The service is built on the same infrastructure used for digital product passport platforms and other compliance registry services. The SHA-256 hashing and verification URL technology is well-established and used in many other compliance contexts.
